THE EXTRA-THINGS

Just kidding!!! ^_^

Vertical Scroll: This is an oil painting Jean did as a project after going with his art college’s travel to Paris. So this painting is based on elements and inspirations he got from traveling around in Paris and from the museums there. The figure on the left is a sculpture by Michelangelo called “the Slave;” behind him are patterns of stained-glass windows. The figure on the right is Rodin’s “the Thinker;” in front of him and the tunnel looking structures surrounding half of the painting represent the Pompidou, which is a museum of modern art. Just behind the stained-glass windows on the upper area of the painting are some gargoyles.

Horizontal Scroll: This is a triptych (3 piece) oil painting of the interior of the Herron School of Art (Jean’s college). It is very much unfinished or it can just be consider as an oil sketch.

Horizontal Scroll: Here is an etching that uses a lot of line work and aquatint (the value). This piece has an enigmatic and “twilight zone” sense to it. So its title is “Enigma.” If it’s kind of hard to know what’s going on in the picture, this is a view looking out of a glass window at the evening sky; the diagonal is the roof of a house, and the person is only a reflection the glass made from the inside light source. The person sitting is a self-portrait of Jean. However, this piece is more than a self-portrait and the emphasis is not on the portrait but on the mood and techniques.
